A highly curated bundle of the supplies you need to explore Sashiko, a traditional Japanese art of functional embroidery.Â
This “Essential” toolkit is a great option for those wanting to try sashiko using the best specialized supplies, and want to use their own scissors/ruler/mat. It’s a perfect gift of the essentials needed to learn sashiko all zipped up in a sturdy storage pouch.Â
Includes:
- book: Sashiko 365 by Susan Briscoe. This is one of the best sashiko books out there, and we think it’s indeed the best book for learning. It has an incredible number of patterns!
- fabric: 1 fat quarter of Essex Yarn Dyed linen blend in Nautical
- marking tools: 1 Clover white marking pen (for dark fabrics) and 1 in blue (for light fabrics). We tested a bunch of pens and like these the best. They mark smoothly, don’t drag on the fabric, show up well, and erase cleanly with water.
- erasing tool: Sewline Aqua Eraser. Fill it with water and the thin tip precisely erases markings.Â
- needles: Tulip Sashiko Needles – Long – Assorted Sizes. Set of 6 needles brilliantly packaged in a delightful little vial with a cork top.
- thimble: Clover Adjustable Ring Thimble with Plate. This is the coin-style thimble native to the sashiko technique.
- thread: 1 spool of Hidamari Sashiko thread in white
- project bag: Grid Zip Bag sized 13.5 x 9.5 inches. A heavy-duty plastic zipper bag that’s sturdy yet flexible, see-through, water-resistant, wipes clean with ease, zips smoothly, and has a snazzy white grid.
